The Price Kaleidoscope represents a diagram, which reflects the inflation rate according to groups and subgroups of goods and services (according to the “Classification of Individual Consumption according by Purpose” - COICOP), as well as their weights in the consumer basket.

By the use of the Price Kaleidoscope it is possible:

• • To compare the rates of the price change for different subgroups of goods and services;
• • To compare the relative importance of individual subgroups of goods and services in the formation of the inflation rate – that is, their weights in the consumer basket.

Instructions for use

1.Select a time period

Select the year and month for which you would like to analyze the inflation rate.

2.Indicate the base period

Indicate one of the two given base periods (the inflation rate compared to the previous month or the corresponding month of the preceding year).

3. Interpretation of results

Each segment of the diagram reflects the weight of the specific subgroups of goods and services in the consumer basket and the percentage change of the prices for this subgroup compared to the specified base period. When you bring the cursor to the segment, the following information for the corresponding subgroup will appear:

• The name of the subgroup
• The percentage change of the prices for the subgroup
• The weight of the subgroup in the consumer basket.

The area of the segment reflects the weight of the corresponding subgroup in the consumer basket. The larger the area of the given segment, the greater is the significance of the subgroup in the formation of the inflation rate.The color of the segment reflects the amount of the price change for the corresponding subgroup, according to the scale below the diagram.
